“ROOTED in gratitude and faith.”
This is how Mount Carmel School alumna Jimin Ryu described her journey to a career in law.
Ryu graduated salutatorian from MCS 10 years ago. She obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from Handong International Law School and is now a Washington D.C. attorney. After joining Bae, Kim & Lee LLC’s corporate team, she was admitted to practice law in the U.S. in June 2023.
She currently works on various cases involving cross-border mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters.
Ryu is the daughter of Ryu Yang Su and Lee Kun Hee.
She said her grandfather, Moon Haeng Lee, the owner of Maganda Utang Home Fashion, raised her on Saipan, where she was a student from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Ryu said the central part of her upbringing was based on Christian values, and she sees her law career “as a testament to the blessings and mentorships I have received.”
After graduating from high school, Ryu was admitted to Korea University where she gained her bachelor’s degree in business administration. While in college, she worked as research assistant for Elaine Ramirez who writes for Forbes Magazine and Bloomberg.
Asked about her achievements in her career so far, she said: “I believe it is not just a reflection of my efforts but also the unwavering support of my loved ones and the grace of God.”
“Every step of my journey, especially my pursuit of a Juris Doctorate degree, has been deeply rooted in gratitude and faith,” Ryu said.
“Each challenge and opportunity that has sculpted my path has been a valuable lesson, and for this, I owe a debt of gratitude to many. In addition to my grandparents who raised me…and, of course, the whole family, I want to give a special shout out to my mentor and aunt for her relentless support in the past 10 years (since I graduated from Mount Carmel School), which has been a cornerstone in shaping my career,” she said.
Moon Haeng Lee, for his part, said he is very proud of his granddaughter. He said he was very happy when she told him the good news about her being admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C.
