PUC was established by Public Law 15-35 which was signed on Oct. 24, 2006.
Its Article 2 states that the commission is authorized to regulate, investigate, examine, establish, and modify reasonable rates and charges for services of a regulated entity.
Another law, P.L. 15-40, gave PUC “the power to issue…orders for partial and immediate rate increases or decreases.”
Muna said CUC has sent the commission a letter, informing its board members of another fuel rate increase this month. “We’re just going through the formality of advising PUC,” he said.
Asked for comment, PUC Chairwoman Viola Alepuyo said they are still trying to gather the opinions of the other members of the board.
The PUC board is composed of Kyle Calabrese, Kimberlyn King-Hinds and Alepuyo.
The current CUC fuel rate is 41.3 cents per kilowatt hour. Last month, the rate was 38.7 cents/kwh.
