THE board of directors of the Marianas Visitors Authority welcomed on Tuesday a new board member.
Ikuo Katayama, general manager of JTB Group Pacific Micronesia Tours, Inc. and president of Tasi Tours & Transportation, Inc., replaced Miyoshi Fujita who recently resigned from the board. Fujita, the director and general manager of R&C Tours Saipan, Inc., served on the MVA board for more than two years.
MVA officials said Katayama, who is also president of Japan Saipan Travel Association, will be a strong ally in efforts to boost the local tourism industry.
The MVA board is currently composed of Chairman David Sablan, Marian Aldan-Pierce, Wendi Herring, JM Guerrero and Roberta Guerrero.
