With a $25,000 HUD grant, the MVA and Northern Marianas Housing Corp. have started construction of a 1,000 gallon holding tank, double the size of the existing tank. Construction is slated for completion by September.
“Although MVA does not have jurisdiction over this land, we has been providing weekly septic pumping services to ensure the public restrooms remain open for both visitors and residents,” said MVA community programs manager Martin Duenas. “It’s been well-maintained operation, but with the construction of the new tank, MVA hopes to reduce our on-going septic pumping expenses by half.”
The restroom was constructed in several years ago by the Department of Public Works and the Division of Parks and Recreation.
The Grotto received over 10,000 visitors in May 2010, according to MVA security reports.
