Myers defends Inos

EDUCATION Commissioner Rita H. Inos in the last four years has saved $20 million for the Public School System, $500,000 of which was saved by making her deputies in acting capacities.

These and other accomplishments of the commissioner that benefited the educational system are the factors that should be taken into consideration in her evaluation, said Robert H. Myers, PSS public information officer.

“In evaluating the commissioner’s performance in the last four years, we should be focusing on the changes that happened for the benefit of the students. What should be factored in the evaluation is how the leadership of Dr. Inos is reflected in the raw data that potentially affected the students and the PSS as an organization,” he said.

Myers likewise disagreed on Rep. Stanley T. Torres’s statement that Inos’s decision to join politics should be considered in the evaluation.

“The congressman is trying very hard to find something which is not there. He is simply nitpicking. He is always looking for the negative and make something big out of it,” he said.

In determining the quality of Inos’s performance, Torres, R-Saipan said that evaluators should remember that she got involved in politics; went on leave for six months to run as lt. governor and left her many responsibilities at the PSS to her deputies.

Torres said these should be factored in the evaluation as abandonment of her post negatively affected the institution.

“Do we only want to look at the positive side of her performance? There would be no objectivity if it would be like that. We are not into a mutual admiration club. What if there is more negative than positive and we ignored that? Would the result of the evaluation still look credible?” Torres said
