Cing wants Tinian employees’ back wages paid

THE municipal government of Tinian has to pay the back wages of its former employees before it moves for the increase of the wages of its current employees and fill up vacancies according to Senate Vice President David M. Cing, D-Tinian.

In two separate letters dated April 1, 2002, Cing requested Sen. Jose M. dele Cruz, chairman of the enate Committee on Fiscal Affair and Rep. Stanley T. Torres, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, to investigate and address the plight of certain employees of the municipality of Tinian and Aguiguan who have not yet received wages and other funds owed them by the local government during the administration of Mayor Herman M. Manglona.

Jeanette Hofschneider Borja, then administrative officer III of Aging Office and Francisco Ching, then consultant for Manglona are among employees who failed to receive their salaries. Cing said the municipal government owes Borja and Chong more than $60,000 of back wages.

“These people are already old and they keep on coming back (asking for their salaries). I feel that though it was during Mayor Manglona’s time, it is still the obligation of the municipal government to pay them,” Cing said.

The senator also drafted a resolution expressing the same concern. He urged Tinian Mayor Francisco Borja to first compensate past employees before it increases wages of present employees and fill up vacancies.
