They cleaned the Francisco Tanko M. Palacios Baseball Field last Sunday, some government offices on Capital Hill last Monday and American Memorial Park yesterday.
Mettao said they will clean up more areas.
Dwayne Davis, a staff member of the Northern Islands mayor’s office, said community service is among the things they can do to show gratitude to the people of Saipan.
“This is just to show that we, the people of the Northern Islands, really appreciate the hospitality we get on Saipan,” Davis said.
Mettao and Davis said Northern Islands residents would rather settle on their home islands.
“The Northern Islands are our home and we want to be there,” Davis said.
But most of them have moved to Saipan.
“Of course we need to bring our kids to school and find jobs,” Davis said.
Mettao said they like Saipan but they want to return home, which is not that easy.
Davis said there is no regular transportation service to the Northern Islands.
They usually try to hitch a ride whenever vessels from the Division of Fish and Wildlife will visit the Northern Islands.
While waiting for their ride, Davis said they want to do something really nice on Saipan, like helping make the island clean and green.
