Nearly 200 attend NMC information session

Registration for upcoming Spring 2011 semester will begin on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, and will continue until Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011. For additional information, visit www.nmcnet.edu.

The free information session began with opening remarks from NMC onterim President Lorraine T. Cabrera. The event featured presentations from staff members and students from the various offices of the student services division, which include financial aid, counseling disability and support, and the Office of Admissions and Records.

NMC financial aid officer Daisy Manglona-Propst spoke to participants about different scholarship opportunities available to students, such as the federal Pell grant, CNMI Scholarship, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program, and the College Access Challenge Project Scholarship.

Other presentations include the benefits of attending NMC, as well as the various degree and certificate programs at the college. Floyd Masga, liaison officer for the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps program, also provided information on the educational benefits and career opportunities in the military for those who wish to participate in the SROTC program.

NMC admissions specialist Marissa Seidler of the Office of Admissions and Records also informed participants of requirements needed to apply to NMC. In addition, NMC international counselor Ni Deleon Guerrero addressed concerns regarding applying to NMC as an international student.

The event also featured student speakers Joanna Palero and Amber Mendiola. Palero’s speech focused on her experience with securing financial aid for college, while Mendiola shared with participants her overall experience attending NMC.

After the presentations, participants were able to meet and have their questions answered by faculty, staff, and students from the various programs and offices. Information session participants also qualified for fee waivers for the Spring 2011 semester, which include the NMC application fee and placement test fees.
