Neighborhood Watch gets support from businessman

Ta Bun Kuy, an active officer of the Saipan Chinese Association, on Friday donated 20 banners to the task force.

“I wish these banners will help deter criminality,” he told Variety.

Ramon B. Camacho, Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chairman and one of the prime movers of the task force, said their partnership with the business sector is very important in the campaign against crime.

Camacho said they will display banners in the villages.

The names of Ta Bun Kuy’s businesses —  Kee Sandwich To Go, Chow Queen Bakery, Serenity Salon & Spa, Dollar Days Wholesale in Garapan and Susupe, and  Micro Beach Hotel — were printed on the banners to signify the support of the business sector, Camacho added.

Ta Bun Kuy expressed concern about the crimes on  island.

“The real problem here is unemployment. If people have no jobs, they start committing crimes,” he said.

The CNMI leadership, he added, should “open up their minds and try to fight this criminality.”

Camacho said they are encouraging other business establishments to support the task force.
