PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSMIS) — Park Byung-Yun recently presented his credentials to President Leo A. Falcam as South Korea’s new ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia.
The ceremony was attended by: the president’s Cabinet members, Pohnpei Gov. Johnny P. David and members of the diplomatic corps.
Park succeeded Lim Dae-Taek Lim to become the third ambassador plenipotentiary and extraordinary to FSM since diplomatic ties were established in 1991.
That year, both countries became members of the United Nation and since then had worked together in numerous regional and global issues of mutual interest in the United Nations.
Areas of mutual interest that include FSM’s upcoming support of the South Korean candidate to the Commission on the Limits of the Continent Shelf.
Falcam said the FSM attaches great importance to the commission because of the FSM’s ongoing efforts to assess possibilities of the continental shelf in the exclusive economic zone.
