Carlito J. Marquez is the new president of the United Filipino Organizations.
THE United Filipino Organizations’ new president, Carlito J. Marquez, said he will continue to work toward realizing the group’s vision of a stronger, more inclusive umbrella organization.
UFO held an induction and installation ceremony for its new officers and board of directors at Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Marquez was elected as UFO’s new president on Nov. 17, 2024, by the umbrella organization that includes Bayani or Heroes Association, Bicol Association, Marianas Association of Filipino Engineers and Architects, Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs and Accountants, Northern Mariana Bartenders Association, Santo Niño Prayer Group, and Tau Gamma Phi.
UFO’s eighth and newest member organization is Samahang Ilokano or Ilocano Society.
In his acceptance speech on Saturday, Marquez said, “It is an honor to serve and lead such a diverse and dynamic organization. I stand before you with excitement and a sense of responsibility as we embark on this new chapter together.”
Marquez said he aims “to strengthen camaraderie, foster deeper community involvement, and build strong networks with stakeholders across the CNMI.”
“We will continue our cherished traditions and explore new opportunities for growth and impact,” Marquez said. “I am deeply humbled to take on this role. While I recognize the challenges ahead, seeing familiar faces gathered here gives me confidence that together, with your unwavering support and participation, we can achieve our shared goals. My leadership will remain open to your ideas, concerns and suggestions. Together, as one team, we will work toward fulfilling our vision for a stronger, more inclusive umbrella organization,” he added.
Marquez also acknowledged the contributions of all past UFO presidents.
“I will strive — with your support — to uphold and build upon their legacy. Let us focus on fostering a harmonious connection among member organizations and addressing the needs of the CNMI community with determination and unity,” he added.
In a statement to Variety on Monday, Marquez said UFO will remain committed in uplifting the values of Filipinos in the islands with collaboration with the CNMI community.
He said UFO will also maintain its signature events such as the Mount Tapochau-Good Friday activity, Pistang Pinoy in June, the Fourth of July parade participation, and the Paskong Pinoy celebration in December.
Likewise, UFO will continue to assist the Philippine Consulate General on Guam whenever it conducts consular services on Saipan, Marquez said.
Beside Marquez, the other UFO officers are: Edmin Elayda and Joselito Espino – vice presidents; Mildred Pabilando – secretary; Valentino Cruz – treasurer; Melanie Galapon – auditor; and Segundo Lapeceros – public relations officer.
Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, Sen.-elect Manny Castro and Philippine Vice Consul to Guam Daniella Bianca Villamin-Oriondo were among the government officials who attended the event.
