Yesterday, the NMC board of regents announced that it will offer the position to Hart.
Board Chairman Juan T. Lizama said Hart has no later than April 12 to inform NMC whether she will accept the offer.
The other candidate was Dr. Jeff Armstrong, the interim president of Muscatine Community College in Iowa. The top candidate was Dr. Christa Adams, the former president of Owens Community College in Ohio, but she withdrew her application.
If she accepts the offer, Hart will get $80,000 in annual salary and a two-year contract.
“It’s a good contract. We are offering Dr. Hart a contract that can’t be terminated without a cause. This is a secured contract pursuant to the guidelines of the college,” Lizama said.
There were 31 applicants for the NMC presidency but the Association of Community College Trustees only endorsed seven names for the board’s consideration.
Lorraine Cabrera has been NMC’s interim president since Carmen Fernandez was suspended and later terminated by the board last year.
Before the board meeting adjourned yesterday, Lizama said they will not issue any statement if Hart declines the offer.
“Please don’t call us and ask us what we’re going to do next, because right now we are taking it step by step and we would like the public to know that this is the process we are taking,” he said.
