With over 12 years of experience in the health industry, Tayna Camacho joins the college to oversee the implementation of a program that the entire CNMI stands to benefit from.
“We welcome Tayna to the NMC community,” said NMC interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera. “The program she will be coordinating is highly vital to the wellbeing of the community.”
Camacho, with her extensive knowledge and management skills in assessing prevention programs to reduce risks associated with non-communicable diseases, will be assisting the NMC-CREES program to coordinate and monitor information associated with the NCD program.
She will act as a focal point for the NCD Council and other partners regarding the NCD prevention and control activities in accordance with the NCD Plan, which was developed by various government departments, non-government agencies, and various community stakeholders.
Camacho will also be tasked with surveying duties, organizing orientations, providing assistance to NCD technical advisers, networking with other government departments and community organizations, communicating with consultants as needed, and providing services to the NCD Council.
“I am looking forward to working with the professional staff and management of NMC CREES,” said Camacho. “The program is essential in improving the lives of those who are either at risk or are currently affected by one or more of such diseases.”
NCD are non-contagious diseases that affect a good percentage of the population in the CNMI. Some examples of non-communicable diseases include diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and cancer. While some diseases stem from genetics, others are usually results of a poor lifestyle that involves unhealthy eating habits, abuse of tobacco, drug and alcohol use, and lack of physical activity.
