The Associated Students of NMC along with Proa Music Society and other school organizations like Upperbound Club, ENRO, Nursing Club, Proa Rhetoric Club, Inter-Club Council and the departments collaborated to make the week-long celebration possible.
“The main purpose of the International Education Week was to give the chance for the students of NMC to appreciate the different cultures that surround them. NMC is a unique campus; a lot of people from different races, places and different walks of life call NMC home. We [ASNMC, ICC, other participating departments] wanted to give them the chance to celebrate that,” said LJ Castro, student activities manager.
ASNMC featured foreign movies every day for the whole week long. “One of the events we do here in the Student Center is we show movies every Wednesday. To coincide with the International Education Week we decided to show movies all week long from different countries like New Zealand, China, the Philippines, India and others,” stated Castro.
Breakpoint Café also participated by serving different kinds of foreign delicacies. Proa Music Society hosted the event with LJ Castro and Amberlyn Mendiola, president of PMS as the main organizers.
The finale of the event commenced on Thursday afternoon.
This year, International Education Week fell on Thanksgiving week so as a way of giving thanks, PMS hosted a Thanksgiving feast to be shared by all of those who participated in the event. The different clubs who participated also prepared performances for everyone to enjoy and watch.
Castro also took part in the performances, “The students always use the student center for practices. And since I was with them all the time anyway I figured I should just take part in it. I enjoy performing here and there,” he said.
“We’re glad that the departments and the clubs helped out. No person is the same. You’re a one in a billion in this planet and we wanted to stress that message.”
