NMC Chairwoman Janet H. King said the notice was served in accordance with the understanding between NMC’s legal counsel and Fernandez’s attorney.
On April 12, the NMC regents met and decided to terminate the contract of Fernandez after she was suspended for three months.
The termination will take effect 30 days upon receipt of the notice.
Fernandez will continue to receive her salary and other benefits within and during the 30-day period.
As of yesterday, King said they had not received any information on whether Fernandez would sue NMC.
Former Lt. Gov. Jesus C. Borja, who is running for U.S delegate, remains the legal counsel of the regents, she added.
King said the regents will soon meet to discuss the selection process of the search committee for the new president.
