NMI forms military integration panel

The charter was signed by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, Senate President Pete P. Reyes,  Speaker Arnold I. Palacios and the mayors of Saipan, Rota, Tinian and the Northern Islands.

Composed of the signatories, the panel will “conduct studies and recommend policies deemed appropriate in order to facilitate and maximize sound and desirable land use planning and economic stability, and manage the impacts resulting from the military buildup on  Guam” which is expected to reach the CNMI.

The committee may apply for grants, loans and other funding sources at the federal or state level to support its mission.

Its existence and function will continue until it determines its purpose has been served or there is evidence that little or no military action will be taken in the region.

A technical committee  chaired by the secretary of Department of Commerce will be formed to work closely with the military growth integration panel.

With the assistance of  cabinet members, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce and representatives from Rota, Tinian, Saipan and the Northern Islands, the technical committee will work on policies for economic development, inter-modal transportation, healthcare, social and environmental, utilities, infrastructure and labor.
