THE American Association of Nurse Practitioners or AANP on Sunday honored NMI nurse practitioner Leticia Reyes, RN, BSN, MSN, NP-C, with the 2025 AANP State Award for Outstanding Contributions for the U.S. Territory.
She received the award during the 2025 AANP National Conference held in San Diego, California from June 17 to 22, 2025.
The prestigious award is given to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in advancing accessible, person-centered, and equitable healthcare, while elevating the role of nurse practitioners. It honors one exceptional individual per state each year, in celebration of the dedication and impact of recipients who continue to shape the future of healthcare.
In a letter to Reyes, AANP President Stephen A. Ferrara said the 2025 award recognizes individuals who have made significant strides in advancing healthcare through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership — and who have also demonstrated efforts to elevate the image, profile, and visibility of nurse practitioners.
Reyes is one of several nurse practitioners nationwide to receive the award this year.
In an interview, Reyes — who currently serves as a family nurse practitioner at Island Community Health Center in San Antonio — said, “It is an immense honor to receive the prestigious state award from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for 2025, representing the Pacific U.S. Territory.”
She said she is proud to represent the Commonwealth and hopes this achievement inspires the CNMI’s youth to set ambitious goals and strive for excellence.
“I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the key individuals who made this award program possible. Your tireless efforts and dedication to recognizing outstanding achievements in our field are truly appreciated,” Reyes said.
She added that the award “is a testament to the hard work and commitment of nurse practitioners in our territory, and I am humbled to be among such an esteemed group of professionals.”
Reyes also thanked AANP for the recognition.
