No austerity measures yet at CUC

CUC is an autonomous agency.

“It is imperative that we bring people to work but we can’t get people working if we’re unable to pay them,” CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho told Variety.

He said CUC’s objective is to retain its personnel who can properly and effectively operate its system on all three islands.

CUC’s financial stability depends on its revenue collection, Camacho said, adding  that in the past few months, they have been implementing internal cost-saving measures without affecting operations.

Over 100 full-time employee positions have not been filled up, and several projects have been deferred due to funding limitations, Camacho said.

But CUC’s collection continues to support its expenditures including debt payments, reinvesting in infrastructure and the required maintenance of its facilities, he added.

In May, the CUC board authorized management to implement cost-saving including austerity measures.
