No water in Koblerville

He said CUC’s trouble desk  informed him that water service will resume but did not give any specific date.

“This is too much already — they’re lying to the public,” said the resident, who declined to be identified.

The deputy director of CUC’s water/wastewater division, Bruce Megarr, said their Maui 1 booster pump has been down for some time due to a breakdown in its bearing and shaft.

“The whole system is under evaluation,” he said, adding that CUC’s water/sewer division has been coordinating with the Water Task Force to address the issue.

He said it took a while before CUC and the task force were able to find the needed replacement parts for the damaged bearing and shaft of the booster pump.

CUC and task force crews began replacing the parts yesterday afternoon, he added.

“They are a blessing to us,” Megarr said, referring to the task force’s assistance, adding that water service in Koblerville should be back online at about 6 p.m.

Saipan has 140 wells and 16 or 17 booster pumps.

Megarr said some of these water facilities need to be rehabilitated or replaced.
