Guest workers raise funds for Philippine typhoon victims

Irene Tantiado, the coalition president, said hundreds of Filipinos remain homeless and in need of help.

Some have been separated from their loved ones, she added.

She is urging other Filipino organizations on island to  support the fundraising campaign because “we Filipinos need our support.”

The coalition, she said, will be setting up tables and drop boxes that will accept cash donations in strategic areas on Saipan.

“I think it’s not hard for the community members to spare a dollar from their pocket,” she said.

Tantiado said they intend to raise $10,000, adding that other groups that want to hold garage sales and sell hot lunches may coordinate with the coalition.

She said they have already asked the Red Cross in the Philippines to distribute the financial aid as soon as the coalition can raise its target amount.

The fundraising will run for two weeks and the coalition may find other ways of soliciting assistance, Tantiado said.
