November is Veterans and Military Families Month

The executive officer of the Veterans Affairs Office, Stanley Iakopo, said the proclamation is in honor of all fallen and living servicemembers and their families for the many sacrifices they have made to protect the freedom of the people of the United States.

Nov. 11, Wednesday, is Veterans Day.

“We should be honoring our veterans every day and not just once a year,” Iakopo said.

He added that the Veterans Affairs Office will hold an intimate ceremony to commemorate and honor veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve.

“It will be a day set aside to remind us and [to] think about the sacrifices of our veterans,” he said.

Veterans of Foreign Wars local chapter head Brad Ruszala, for his part, said he is thankful that the CNMI government supports the commitment made by the servicemembers of the Commonwealth.

“When we volunteer to serve, we do so without asking for recognition,” he said. “So it… is nice to know that when we come home from training or from deployments, we have the support of a grateful community.”

The Commonwealth has more than 1,000 servicemembers and veterans.
