Ogumoro vows to work closely with Tudela

Ogumoro, Tarkong said, also plans to continue the random drug-testing on all DPS personnel in view of the arrest on “ice” charges of Patrol Officer Florencio Richards.

“The deputy commissioner would like to reassure the general public that with the recent arrests and charges filed against [the department’s] own personnel, he will continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for anyone, to include police and fire personnel who break the law,” said Tarkong in an e-mail.

It was Ogumoro who allowed the reinstatement of Richards following the dismissal of the burglary charges against the police officer and his 30-day retraining period.

Ogumoro, Takong added, “plans to continue his campaign against illicit drugs and narcotics and support the Drug Enforcement Task Force which consists of the DPS narcotics unit with the cooperation of CNMI Customs.”

With Ogumoro’s return to DPS, Tarkong said the deputy commissioner “is continuing where he left off.”

Ogumoro plans to continue  implementing cost-cutting measures to conserve fuel by monitoring all DPS vehicle mileage log sheets, Tarkong said.

“Mr. Ogumoro will insure that the department maintains a healthy and clean standard while interacting with the public,” Tarkong said.

The deputy commissioner, Tarkong added, plans to counter reckless driving and drivers on island through the Aggressive Driving Interdiction Program which involves having uniformed officers “saturating,” or making themselves highly visible on the main roads to deter, detect and apprehend reckless drivers.

Ogumoro wants to continue to maintain the high morale among DPS personnel to further improve their ability to fight crime and address the public’s concerns, Tarkong said.
