William DeWitt, director of the Saipan Southern High School Manta Concert and founder and conductor of the Pacific Winds Band, said that the concert will be the annual “season-ender” to celebrate the band’s 15th year of performances.
DeWitt said the concert will feature musical selections that include John Philip Sousa Marches, When I Fall In Love, Pirates of the Caribbean, Fate of the Gods, Celebration for Winds and Percussion, Can-Can You Name These Tunes?, selected pieces by Ray Charles, selected music by Michael Jackson, the Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, and more.
“The musicians of this non-profit musical group are as diverse as our island community itself composed of students and adults of all ages, occupations, and levels of experience collaborate to perform quality wind band music,” DeWitt said.
The band performs during civic, patriotic, and holiday events throughout the year, including the Memorial Day ceremonies at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi on May 31.
“We are proud to serve the CNMI and love to share our music with this community,” DeWitt said.
The band performs under its co-director Christina A. Nierras and president David Bucher.
The Saipan Pacific Winds community concert band has 30 members this year.
“The Pacific Winds wishes to thank to staff of American Memorial Park, especially Ranger Nancy Kelchner for opening up the park for this musical event. We would also like to thank SSHS and its principal Dr. Craig Garrison for supporting this organization and providing our weekly rehearsal venue,” DeWitt said.
