Marilyn Papio received the $250 grand prize for her rendition of Celine Dion’s “It’s all Coming Back to me.”
Johnson Delos Santos, known as Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino’s “Jay-Lo,” won the $100 second prize for his versatile chef fruit carvings and graphic artwork performance while dancing and singing.
Jonathan San Nicolas of Bank of Guam received $50 third prize for his interpretation of the Cranberries’ “Zombie.”
Since JC Café started its monthly Magpasikat Challenge last February, several talents have emerged on Tinian, JC Café manager Lot G. Bunao said.
She said the completion was “challenging.”
“There was a time we had to cancel it due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and even though the economy is down, we have to uplift the spirits and boost the morale of the public by offering wholesome entertainment,” Bunao said.
The show, she added, “unearthed” the hidden talents of a lot of residents and visitors.
On behalf of JC Café, Bunao extends her thanks to all the sponsors: IT&E, Pacific Amusement, Susan Cruz of Susan’s Creations, Royal Crown Insurance Corp., Pacific Wines & Spirits — the distributor of Carlsberg Beer, Francis Malicsi of Saipan Industries, Huang Shun Corp., Lucky Qiang, A.M. Enterprises, H-Mart, Triple J Saipan, Barnard Maraon, Vina Hofschneider, Coca-Cola Beverage, and Allen Palacios.
Bunao said with the successful conclusion of the six-month Magpasikat Challenge, more events and activities are in store for the residents of Tinian.
She said JC Café plans to host a one-time talent show this summer for children.
“We will be giving kids 4 to 12 years old a chance to showcase their talents in singing, dancing and playing any musical instrument from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at JC Café on Aug. 20,” Bunao said.
Registration is free and trophies, cash prizes and special awards await the winners. Contact Sally at 433-3413 for more information.
