Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said they usually conduct their monthly cleanup on the first or second Saturday of the month, but this month was an exception.
“We did the cleanup on Sunday because we know the marathon on Saturday would leave a lot of trash on the streets,” Siwa said.
She said the group that conducted the cleanup on Sunday included members of the Saipan Awaodori team from Koblerville, students of Saipan Southern High School and other regular volunteers from Tanapag and Gualo Rai.
“The high school students who joined us did it for a community project and we were glad to have them,” Siwa said.
For the past years, PDM Promoters Inc., a non-profit organization, has collected thousands of pounds of trash during its monthly cleanup program.
The regular PDM cleanup usually starts from the side of Winchell’s in Garapan, heading to Coral Tree Avenue, to the Garapan fire station, and ends up in front of American Memorial Park.
Siwa said they started the program as a means of teaching the children the importance of helping keep the environment clean.
PDM Promoters Inc. continues to be grateful for its loyal supporters and volunteers who have always been there for the monthly cleanups.
Siwa urges the community members to do its part by being responsible in disposing of their trash and helping keep Garapan district an attractive place not only for tourists but for everybody.
“We welcome more volunteers to our monthly cleanup,” Siwa said. For more information, call 234-6900.
