Bainimarama has also directed the Ministry for Transport, Works and Public Utilities and the Land Transport Authority to “immediately investigate” the public safety issues in the bus involved.
The bus caught fire at Naevuevu, near Sigatoka at around 11 p.m. last.
Police have established the names of the victims and are trying to notify their next of kin before releasing any further details to the media.
At least two children are dead. Many others are still in hospital nursing injuries.
The group had hired the bus and was heading to Martintar, Nadi when the incident happened.
Police said the driver escaped unscathed.
