The National reports threats have also been made against NCD/Central police boss acting Assistant Commissioner Awan Sete and metropolitan commander Supt Fred Yakasa.
Talks of threats against these senior police officers have been swirling in the capital in the last few days until Baki confirmed it in a press conference at police headquarters.
There had been suggestions from various sources that the threats were coming from within rather than outside, but Baki did not specifically say where they were coming from and in what form.
“We do not know where the threats were coming from, whether they were from within or from criminals. We are investigating these threats. But I can assure you that we will not abandon our investigations just because of these threats and intimidations,” Baki said.
“I will not be deterred. I will not be moved and will continue to work until we have the last criminal and their accomplices in jail,” he said.
He did say that some of the threats were in the form of telephone calls made to them directly, and to their family members.
The commissioner said the threats were having an impact on the officers and their families.
“This is the last thing we want. It is not fair when we are only doing our jobs,” he said.
He said the lives of honest committed and hardworking policemen were put at risk in the pursuit of these crime suspects.
