Quitano, 25, is facing charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and contempt of court.
Quitano’s companion, Marlon Martin, was immediately arrested after a foot chase following the robbery of the pawnshop which left two employees injured.
Police recovered from Martin $841 in cash and the machete used in the robbery.
Quitano was identified through the pawnshop’s surveillance camera, and a confidential source helped DPS in tracking him down.
Police said the footage showed Quitano entering the pawnshop armed with crowbar, wearing gray long-sleeved buttoned-shirt, blue long jeans, a black shirt covering his face, and a brown baseball cap.
Superior Court Judge David Wiseman set a $100,000 cash bail for Quitano’s provisional liberty.
Quitano appeared without counsel while Assistant Attorney General George Hasselback represented the government.
After the hearing, Wiseman remanded Quitano to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Quitano will return to court on Nov. 10 for the preliminary hearing and on Nov. 16 for his arraignment.
DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela recognized Sgt. Sylvan Rangamar, Detective Chris Leon Guerrero, and other investigators “for their hard work and dedicated service to see that these criminals are arrested and brought to justice.”
