“We’re not far off the deadline,” committee secretary Lucy Sablan said as she expressed confidence in their teamwork.
This Monday, she said, the Department of Public Works and the Saipan mayor’s office will start the construction of the booths, which should be completed within 10 days.
Sablan said a week before June 4, the official starting date of the month-long Liberation Day celebration, DPW and the mayor’s office will inspect the booths to ensure public safety.
As of yesterday, concession committee chairwoman Lisa Flores said they had 16 applicants for food booths and 11 for general merchandise and games.
The committee will limit the number of booths from 35 to 40 and will reserve space for the Sabalu Market farmers.
Tina Pangelinan, Liberation queen committee chairwoman, said they have already 10 confirmed candidates, including those from the Palauan, Filipino and Japanese communities.
On Monday, the candidates will be officially presented to the public during a pinning ceremony at the mayor’s office.
This year’s Liberation Day theme is “Celebrating Youth, Our Leaders Tomorrow.
This year’s parade will have four grand marshals from Rota, Tinian, the Northern Islands and Saipan.
In line with its theme, the committee will also recognize youth leaders this year, Sablan said.
