The awards were handed by Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan and the Board of Education members led by Chairwoman Lucia L. Blanco-Maratita yesterday at Laolao Bay Golf Resort in a ceremony attended by CNMI public school principals, program directors and managers.
Thornburgh was honored for helping secure the largest federal grant award ever received by PSS.
Quitugua received the award for her instructional leadership and contributions to the PSS Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment..
Lizama was praised for her “exemplary achievement and leadership” in meeting the U.S. Department of Education’s requirements for the PSS special education program.
Eight other education officials received awards yesterday:
Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School principal Charlotte DLG. Camacho, Koblerville Elementary School principal Rizalina Maratita-Purunganan, Head Start program director Kathleen A. Yamagata, who will retire this August, William S. Reyes Elementary School principal Lynette L. Villagomez, who will move to the PSS central office, associate commissioner for administrative service Pete James Le’au, former Hopwood Jr. High School principal Christine Tudela, former Dandan Elemenrary School principal Jonas M. Barcinas and former Tinian High School principal Florine Hofschneider.
