PSS three months behind in payment to major vendors

This was what acting Commissioner of Education Charlie Kenty and acting PSS finance director Lori Grizzard disclosed yesterday.

Grizzard said PSS owed the three major vendors $455,000.

PSS has to pay the Retirement Fund $16,000 a month for using its building on Capital Hill.

PSS also has to pay National Office Supply for student and teacher supplies and Joeten for the materials used by schools in  their renovation and repair projects.

Grizzard said PSS has no leftover funds from FY 2008.

PSS was allocated $35.4 million in FY 2008.

However, it is still waiting for its fourth quarter allotment which was supposed to be remitted to PSS in September.

Variety learned that the Department of Finance on Monday asked PSS for a list of its vendors.

Grizzard is optimistic that all vendors will soon receive their checks.

PSS, she added, is paying all federal vendors on time, which include the entities that deliver breakfast and lunch meals to public schools.
