(PSS) — The Public School System’s transition to Tyler Technologies’ Tyler Enterprise ERP cloud-based software is a milestone for PSS, Interim Commissioner of Education Donna M. Flores said.
The software will improve and automate the school district’s financial management system, she added.
PSS had been using the JD Edwards System for decades. After nearly three years of planning and training, at 2 p.m. Thursday, PSS Treasurer Elia Marie O. Santos logged on to the new system.
By the third week of January, the Tyler Enterprise ERP software will be rolled out throughout the school district’s 20 elementary, middle and high school campuses on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
Tyler Technologies is the nation’s leader in integrated software and has completed over 40,000 installations. It serves 25% of all school districts in the U.S., according to Tyler Technologies Project Manager Caroline Wine.
“We are glad to have the opportunity to empower the CNMI PSS to be stronger in all that they do for the community,” she added.
Aside from PSS, the Department of Finance and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation are the only entities in the Commonwealth that have implemented the cloud-based software.
“This will definitely streamline all financial-related activities that happen on a daily basis at PSS,” Flores said. It also addresses the recommendations of external auditors to further improve PSS’s financial management system, she added.
“This is essentially strengthening our accountability and reliability systems,” Flores said as she also praised the team of PSS Finance Director Arlene Lizama.
“I really want to acknowledge the hard work of our finance director and her incredible staff who have taken the lead and extra time in building the system. Without their help, the transition would not have been possible at all,” Flores said.
“This is a milestone for the Public School System,” she added. “This is a great undertaking that took a lot of persuasion, research and hard work on the part of our dedicated staff, who made this possible. This is the result of taking the right direction with technology,” she said.
“Definitely, Tyler Enterprise ERP will streamline our financial system, especially budgeting and forecasting for PSS,” Lizama said. “This also raises our level of accountability by providing more transparency in what we do,” she added.
