Dr. Jessica Nelson, left, operates on an animal during her visit to Saipan last year.
SAIPAN Humane Society is booking appointments in October for spay and neuter clinics with visiting veterinarian Dr. Jessica Nelson, SHS founder Lauren Cabrera said.
Nelson will be on island with a credentialed veterinary technician. The clinics will take place on Oct. 14-17 and Oct. 22-25 at the Saipan Humane Society’s Garapan clinic on Alaihai Street.
Cat surgeries are only available on Oct. 17. The cost for dog and female cat surgeries is $75, while male cat surgeries are $50.

According to Cabrera, “Spaying and neutering not only prevent unwanted litters but also have significant health benefits for pets, including reducing the risk of certain cancers and infections. Moreover, controlling the pet population is critical in helping reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness on Saipan, ensuring every animal has a chance at a healthy, happy life.”
Cabrera added, “Controlling overpopulation is also important in protecting both [the] public health and environmental health of our beautiful islands!”
Saipan has no permanent veterinarian.
During her visit to Saipan last year, Dr. Nelson performed 235 spay and/or neuter services and 183 sick consultations.
Support from the Banfield Foundation made the clinics possible.
