Pula will also visit the island’s power plants, including Aggreko’s, this week.
Describing yesterday’s meeting as “very positive,” Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the officials discussed possible long-term solutions to the Saipan’s energy problems.
Senate President Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan, Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, R-Saipan, and Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Antonio S. Muna also attended the meeting.
“We are working with the Legislature and the Office of Insular Affairs to address our power crisis and develop a long-term plan,” Reyes said.
Pula is scheduled to have more meetings with lawmakers and CUC management this week.
Palacios said they told Pula that the engines at Power Plant 1, the island’s main source of energy, “need to be rehabilitated,” specifically Engines 5 and 7.
He said they also discussed the need for the overall improvement of the island’s power system.
