Team Cucina or Team D, composed of Roderick Lopez, Charon De Lara and Lino Tenorio bested three other teams with their special barbecue rib eye steak cooked in homemade sauce.
They garnered 51 points beating Team A by just a point.
Team Cucina took home $300 as well as gift baskets from the sponsors.
Team A received $200 for placing second while Team C got $100 for winning the third prize with 45 points, Team B landed in fourth place with 41 points.
“We just formed a team, did our best and did not expect anything,” De Lara said.
The competitors were provided Certified Angus Beef products and were given free rein in creating their side dishes and showing their plating skills.
Jay Santos, “Triple J” Saipan marketing manager said, “We are very happy to work with Marianas Variety and other sponsors to give our women a chance to showcase their skills in the grill,” Santos said.
Judges were Hyatt chef Gabrielle Columbo and Yoshiyuki Inomata of NBK-Kikkoman.
“Every team did their best and their preparations were great,” Columbo said.
Marianas Variety president Laila Y. Boyer hosted the event. The sponsors were Triple J Five Star Wholesale Foods, Kikkoman Alpex, KKMP 92.1 FM, Marianas Variety, Western Sales & Trading, Rota Mineral Water, Hyatt, Taro Leaf and Triple J Super Fresh Market.
