He told reporters that the Department of Finance is still processing about 30,000 income tax returns filed with the Rev & Tax, adding that the government must pay tax refunds first.
These are over payments that the government has to pay back, he added.
“We can’t even pay the first rebate until we’re done with the returns. The priority is to pay refunds. Rebate will come last,” he said.
The lack of manpower and a director at Rev & Tax remains to be the challenge, but the government does not have funds to hire new full-time employees, Inos added.
“We are trying to hire people but the number one issue is we don’t even have the funds for them,” he said.
Asked how soon rebates can be released, Inos said, probably by the end of summer or in September.
Inos earlier said that returns were continuously being filed but “we’re not at the point that we are ready to start paying the rebates.”
Rev & Tax compliance manager Elpidia B. Camacho earlier told Variety that the processing would depend on how fast they could feed the returns into the computer system
She said they only had seven staffers.
