NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh, who was one of the speakers at the Saipan Rotary Club meeting at the Hyatt yesterday, said businesses could use the chance to bond with their employees while supporting the projects and operations of the local Red Cross.
“We need all the support that we can get,” Hirsh told the Rotarians.
The local chapter plans to donate 10 percent or $5,000 of the proceeds from the walkathon to help the ongoing relief operations for the victims and survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
“We have already turned over all the donations we have received from the community to the Japanese Red Cross Society,” Hirsh said.
He said the Japanese Red Cross Society has over 2 million ground volunteers, operates over a hundred hospitals and has extensive experience in responding to disasters and calamities such as earthquakes.
“Recovering from the devastation is a long and painful process, but we are happy for the support of the community and for your efforts to raise funds to donate to the victims,” Hirsh said.
