Renovation of administration building continues

The governor’s conference room  may no longer be used as soon as  workers start tearing down the east-wing offices on the ground floor of the building.

Press Secretary Angel A. Demapan said while the ground floor renovation is going on, cabinet meetings and other public events like proclamation signing will be held at alternative locations.

Because the elevator became operational yesterday, the furniture and other  equipment in Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s office were moved to his newly renovated office upstairs, just next to the office of Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos.

The public information office was also moved to the second floor.

The office of the special assistant to the administration was temporarily moved to the south wing. It will return to its original spot as soon as the renovation is completed.

The  special assistants to  programs and legislative review, indigenous affairs, disability programs and policy, women’s affairs and special projects are now at their new offices.

The $285,950 renovation, which is federally funded, will make the administration building in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Demapan said yesterday was the start of the renovation’s third phase.

He said the project will make the administration building more accessible to people with disabilities while fixing the dilapidated parts of the structure which was constructed during the Trust Territory era.

Demapan said some of rooms have already been infested by termites.
