Reyes, Ogumoro to organize APIL meeting in NMI

The committee is composed of lawmakers and representatives of community groups and was formed yesterday when they  met in the Senate chamber.

Ogumoro said they plan to hold the APIL general assembly in the House chamber and tour the visiting delegates  to Managaha and other tourist destinations on island.

Reyes said during the APIL meeting, they will focus on several areas of regional concerns, including alternative energy.

“As you know the CNMI and other jurisdictions are really suffering from the high cost of generating power,” he added.

“Because of the high cost of gas we may want to start looking into mass transportation. Another focus is  tourism and the need to capitalize on our natural resources,” he said.

The other APIL members are American Samoa, Guam, the Marshall Islands, Palau, Hawaii, Nauru, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia — Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap.
