Rota casino commission to get $6K

During the delegation’s session, the Rota lawmakers unanimously passed House Local Bill 17-58 that appropriates $6,000 for the operations and other activities of the commission for FY 2011.

The local appropriation measure now goes to the governor.

The Rota delegation allotted $2,500 of the money for the executive director’s salary;  $1,000 for professional services; $2,000 for communications; $300 for repairs; and $200 for ground maintenance.

In an interview after the session, Sen. Juan M. Ayuyu, Ind.-Rota and chairman of the delegation said, the appropriation measure will allow the commission to meet its obligations.

Because of the struggling casino industry on Rota, Ayuyu said the commission is not really in full operation.

However, it has incurred administration expenses, including legal services.

Ayuyu said  he and the rest of the Rota lawmakers continue to hope that despite the limited budget for fiscal year 2012, they will still be able to promote the casino industry on Rota.
