Rota hotel has over $148K in federal tax liabilities

Trial attorney Lauren M. Castaldi of the U.S. Department of Justice’s tax division filed the complaint to reduce the federal tax assessment to a judgment against the hotel on Sept. 1, 2011.

The civil action is also asking for interest and other statutory additions as provided by law. The U.S. government should also be granted its costs incurred in bringing this action, the complaint stated.

Court records showed that the tax periods covered were from 1997 up to 2008.

Despite timely notice and timely demand of the assessment, “Rota Coconut Village Hotel has neglected, refused, or failed to pay such assessments,” the complaint stated.

Castaldi said this action is being taken at the direction of the attorney general of the United States and with the authorization of the chief counsel of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
