Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters Inc. said the artwork of the students from the two islands will be on display at the Paseo de Marianas from Dec. 3 to Jan. 7, 2010.
Participants are from Tinian Elementary School and Sinapalo Elementary School on Rota.
Two sets of winners from each island will be chosen. The first prize winner from Rota and Tinian will receive $50 each, while the second prize will get $30 each. Third prize winners, one each from Rota and Tinian, will get $20.
Siwa said all participating students will receive a gift from PDM Promoters.
Participants can just send in their entries to PDM Promoters. The announcement of winners will be on Dec. 17 at the Garapan Street Market.
Last year, several entries depicting ideas on how the students could welcome guests to the Marianas were sent in from the two islands. The drawings are still in exhibit at the Paseo de Marianas.
On Dec. 20 to Jan. 7, 2010, Siwa said there will be a Japanese calligraphy exhibit featuring students of the Japanese Society of NMI Educational Department.
On. Dec. 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. PDM Promoters will host the Japanese Mochitsuki Festival.
“This event is in collaboration with the Japanese Society of the Northern Marianas,” Siwa said.
She added that there will be demonstrations of traditional rice making for the Japanese New Year.
“We are inviting the community to join us in the events for this festive occasion. This is our way to connect our community and visitors and offer a safer venue for all,” Siwa said.
