Rotary to donate $1,000 to Vladivostok hospital

At the Rotary Club of Saipan meeting Tuesday, secretary Laila Younis Boyer said, “The Rotary Club of Saipan is donating $1,000 to the ‘warm doors’ project.”

Boyer said the donation would go toward providing specialized doors in the Children’s Hospital No. 3 to ward off the cold winter air coming from outside.

The hospital houses up to 20 orphans between the ages of a few months to four years old.

In Russia, orphans up to four years of age are housed in the hospital while awaiting adoption.

In an interview, Boyer said the project is in partnership with the Vladivostok Eco Rotary Club.

She confirmed that the Rotary would be sending the donation via wire transfer sometime this week.

The “warm doors” project is a subsequent project to the “warm windows” project that the Rotary Club of Saipan participated in previously.

Visiting Vladivostok Eco Rotary Club member Natalia Kolchev provided Saipan Rotarians with an update on the renovations made to the Vladivostok hospital.

She reported the installation of more warm windows and double-brick walls and renovation of the restroom.

She shared that they still need more warm windows and doors.

In Russia, winter can be brutal as temperature equalizes for both indoors and outdoors.

It has been two and half years since the renovation began at the Vladivostok hospital.

Kolchev said they were grateful to donations made by factories as well. “We bought doors and windows, they gave us more.”

In an interview, she said they spent about $5,000 for renovating the restroom with double-brick wall, toilet seats and warm floors.

Kolchev said they still welcome more assistance for such needs as furniture, doors, and toys.

As for doors, Kolchev emphasized the urgency to replace the doors with new ones. “We have to fix them and put new one.”

As for adoption, Kolchev said American citizens can adopt children from the hospital.

Asked on the procedure, she said potential adoptive parents can coursed their application through the U.S. consulate in Vladivostok.
