Rota Municipal Council chairman George Hocog yesterday said the event will start on Sept. 9 and end on the 11th.
The three designated places are As Matmos, Malilok and Pona Point.
“Our goal is to establish more tourist attractions on Rota and preserve its traditional sports,” he told Variety.
Last year, he said there were many visitors who witnessed the event. “We are expecting over 40 participants this tournament this year,” he added.
The tournament is also open to participants from Saipan, Tinian and Guam.
The $25 registration fee must be paid before or during check-in time.
The tournament starts at 5:30 p.m. and the briefing on the rules and regulations will be conducted an hour earlier at the Guata Beach Park.
Hocog said there will be two weigh masters during the tournament and they will visit the fishing sites.
The first weigh-in on Saturday is from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. in As Matmos, 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in Pona Point, and 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Malilok.
The second weigh-in in As Matmos is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Pona Point, and 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Malilok.
The third weigh-in is scheduled for Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. in As Matmos, 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in Pona Point, and 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in Malilok.
Prizes are set in three categories: biggest fish, total weight and most variety.
Only four winners will be selected in each category.
All fish species will qualify for prize categories with the exception of oceanic species such as sharks, turtles, shellfish, eels and octopus.
