Saipan mayor meets with region’s new meteorologist

Joining Aydlett in his meeting with the mayor were Special Assistant for Homeland Security and Emergency Management Gerald J. Deleon Guerrero, and Emergency Operations Center manager Joey Dela Cruz.

The mayor said he told Aydlett that he appreciates “all the help” that his predecessor, Charles “Chip” Guard, provided to the Marianas.

After nearly 20 years at the National Weather Service’s Weather Forecast Office, Guard retired in Dec. 2019.

Apatang said he believes that like Guard, Aydlett is “very experienced” with the region’s weather situation.

Aydlett’s role includes weather and disaster preparedness throughout the entire Micronesian region, including the CNMI and Guam.
