Saipan Mayor RB Camacho stands near a raised garden bed that will be donated to the Center for Living Independently.
SAIPAN Mayor RB Camacho told the media on Thursday that as part of fulfilling his priorities in office, he is seeking community partners to “promote safe communities, safe villages, and a clean island.”
Camacho said his office’s projects include the implementation of a neighborhood watch program, a project to build raised garden beds, and “adopt-a-place” partnerships.
He said he has asked religious organizations on island to participate in the neighborhood watch program.
“I’ve already met with two religious leaders, and forthcoming is a meeting with other religious leaders on island to see how we can work together to combat unacceptable activity within our community,” Camacho said.
He is likewise inviting cultural practitioners or clubs to partner with the mayor’s office in “adopting” roadways, beachside pavilions or other community spaces that they can beautify and maintain.
“The last group that adopted a place is the Lions Club,” Mayor Camacho said, referring to a beachside pavilion on Beach Road. He said other groups are welcome to take care of the island.
“I’m looking for any…group that treats this place as home to come and [adopt a place],” he added.
As for raised garden beds, he said they are part of his “farm to table” project that will benefit the Center for Living Independently.
Camacho said his staff are repurposing used lumber and pallets to create raised garden beds.
He also plans to donate raised garden beds to the Office on Aging and the Public School System.
