San Antonio school celebrates Health Day, holds Science Fair

The school also held its  Science Fair yesterday.

“The agencies are here today to present to our students and teach a little bit of what they do in the community, what their roles are,” said event committee chairwoman and third grade teacher Hilda Rios.

“We hope to gain a lot of information and skills from them because the classroom alone is not enough. So we reach out to these community members and agencies to come and help the school,” she added.

Health Day presenters included Maggie Untalan from the Community Guidance Center, Greg Borja and Tom Thornbourg from the Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy Systems Inc., Trina Sablan of the Diabetes Coalition, Aling Ogumoro who talked about HIV, Jonathan Kyoshi, Rose Castro, and Polly Omechelang from Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service, Luisano Rangamar and Joe Fitial from the Emergency Management Office, and Benjamin Kennedy and JD Tenorio from the American Red Cross.

They gave the children a 15-minute talk about their agencies and what they do, said Rita Carreon, event committee co-chairwoman and kindergarten teacher.

For the Science Fair, 48 projects submitted by kindergarten to sixth grade students were showcased in the school cafeteria.

“We will select five of those projects that will represent our school in the islandwide competition in March,” said Rios.

The San Antonio winners will be announced  this week.

Food and drinks were donated by LKR Snack Bar, Mr. and Mrs. Kit Indalecio, Subway, Han Nam Market, Herman’s Bakery, and Kalayaan Inc. Catering Services.
