San Vicente students, teachers, parents promote healthy food

On Tuesday night, the PTA held its food demonstration and the presentation of young farmers of their produce.

Sablan said he wants all PTAs in the CNMI to adopt the healthy food practice, not only in schools but in their homes.

This program, he said, is very helpful to the community. “We can prevent health problems if we eat healthy food.”

He said the  demonstration, showcased different healthy foods, and taught school children  the value of healthy living.

San Vicente Elementary School principal Joaquina DLG. Salas said since the implementation of their healthy food program, a lot of their children are no longer interested in junk food.

“They are more interested in eating fruits and vegetables. And we also invite parents to a series of lectures about this health program,” she said.

In the school cafeteria on Wednesday evening, PTA members and guests shared the healthy food items they brought for the event.

One of the school’s young farmers, fourth grader Annali Arcega, said she planted papaya, carrots, tomato, pepper and eggplant.

“I like them because they are rich in vitamins,” she added.
