Santos commends two Rota heroes

Such an heroic act, according to Rep. Teresita A. Santos, serves as an inspiration to all.

“Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, David Vince Manglona Ogo demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others, personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordinary citizens across the community of Rota who voluntarily respond when others are in need of help,” she said.

Santos has pre-filed a resolution to honor and commend Ogo in recognition of his heroic action in saving three lives.

“Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled,” she said.

In her resolution, Santos said Ogo was heading back to Songsong village when he noticed something burning at the Veterans Park.

Ogo approached the scene and noticed a vehicle lying on its top with flames coming out from underneath.

Without regard to his own personal safety, Santos said Ogo rushed to the burning vehicle and pulled out the two passengers and the driver to safety.

As soon as the three passengers were out of harm, the vehicle exploded and was engulfed in flames, she said.

“David Vince Manglona Ogo should be meritoriously commended for remaining calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage while performing a lifesaving deed,” Santo said.

She also honored in a separate resolution another hero on Rota for helping deliver a female resident’s newborn infant while on her way to the Rota Health Center.

On Nov. 9, 2009, she said a female resident was transported to the health center by an ambulance in preparation for labor and delivery.

Firefighter 1 Clint Atalig Barcinas helped deliver the baby en route to the center, Santos said.

“Barcinas’ heroic and valiant actions are testaments that firefighters are the everyday heroes of our society,” she said.

In April 2006, Barcinas became a Workforce Investment Agency trainee with the Department of Public Safety-Fire Division on Rota.

Santos said in July 2007, Barcinas attended the Fire Academy at Northern Marianas College and graduated in Sept. 2007.
