Seman is new Agriculture director

In a memorandum  signed yesterday, Dela Cruz informed all DLNR officials and staffers about the appointment of Seman who started working on Dec. 22.

After having served as director of Division of Fish and Wildlife for 16 years, Seman was appointed DLNR secretary by then-Gov. John N. Babauta.

Earlier this year, Seman helped Saipan fishermen establish a cooperative’s market.

Dela Cruz said Seman is the best person to lead the Division of Agriculture.

Seman, the DLNR chief added, practically grew up on a farm helping his grandfather manage their ranch.

“He has a rich experience with vegetable farming and raising chicken, hogs and cattle. He will be a great asset to our department and will ably serve our Saipan farmers and ranchers,” Dela Cruz said.

In a separate interview, Seman said he is happy to be considered for the job.

He said he appreciates DLNR’s recognition of his knowledge and experience.

He vowed to revive  agriculture programs “needed in these economic hard times.”

The government’s full support, he added, will allow him to help farmers achieve better productivity and find better ways of marketing their  produce.

Agriculture is DLNR’s biggest division, consisting of equipment services, quarantine inspection, forestry, animal health and extension.
